How the Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Learning (EAL) process wo
rk...

  • EAP/EAL provides an empowering environment for clients to change destructive behaviors
  • EAP/EAL are not an office-based therapy.  The clients participate in on-the-ground activities  with the horses and they process what happened, their thoughts, behaviors, and patterns
  • Clients try our new behaviors and approaches with instant feedback and support

Why Horses...

  • Horses require work - in an age of immediate gratification working with a horse requires the client to build a relationship and try different approaches
  • Working with horses requires personal responsibility and communication
  • Horses mirror back a clients behaviors and attitudes for the client to see

How EAP/EAL works for clients...

  • Clients quickly identify problem or unhealthy behavior patterns
  • Clients are in the moment and can "feel, touch, and see" how their behavior or patterns affect their lives
  • Clients learn how to change unhealthy or unproductive behavior patterns

“Clients can learn the basics of respect, problem-ownership, and maintaining healthy relationships through their interaction with horses” Lynn Thomas, EAGALA Co-Founder

Can EAP/EAL Causes Lasting Change?

We strongly believe that true change in behaviors and patterns happens when a person is challenged and outside of their comfort zone.

The experiential nature of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning allows the client to experience their current behaviors and patterns in life through a variety of activities and change those that are not working for them or are unhealthy.  We believe that it is our job to create the environment which empowers them to find their own answers.

We actually do very little talking during the sessions, instead our facilitating team lets the client interact with the horses.  Horses are naturally great mirrors!  They reflect back a client's behaviors.  True change and results occurs when the clients realize they have the power to change themselves and therefore the world around them.

During EAP sessions clients are able to try out new behaviors and patterns with the horses in a supportive and safe environment.
What model of EAP therapy do we use:

Unbridled Change utilities the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association's (EAGALA) model for our EAP/EAL services. EAGALA is an international organization with thousands of members worldwide. EAGALA has the highest level of set standards and ethics. EAGALA also offer multiple levels of certification in the EAP/EAL facilitation.

Our therapy team is made up of an EAGALA certified equine specialist, licensed mental health professional, and trained equines to provide quality out-patient mental health services.
