 Unbridled Change's Four Legged Therapist

Every horse has a unique personality and disposition. Without our diverse herd we would not be able to impact so many lives for the better!

"Put a client in the arena with horses and they forget its therapy!"

Meet our Four Legged Therapists

Rafik

Rafik's name means constant companion.  He started his life as a throw-away horse, but after being rescued he is now one of the favorites for our clients!

Squire

Squire is one of our miniature horses, but don't let his size fool you, he thinks he is ten feet tall!  He loves his job and is great at helping others.

Cookie

Cookie is a Shetland pony cross and has been with our program for over a year.  He is a bit shy at first but if you take your time and earn his trust you'll have a friend for life!

Cocco Puff

She was donated to Unbridled Change to help at-risk youth.  She is one of our main ponies that travels to schools and other places to help children throughout the Roanoke Valley area.

 Diesel

Diesel is a free lease to the program.  He was trained as a 3-day eventer but loves to "play" with our clients.  He stands at 17.2 so he another giant in the program but a gentle and steady mount when asked to work in therapeutic riding lessons.
 Otis

Otis is a free lease to the program.  He has had a long career of watching over his riders.  He spent the 1st part of his life as the child's mount for fox hunters.  Then he moved onto therapeutic riding.  He has found that he loves EAP/EAL activities and clients and will stay engaged as long as the clients are.  He might have been "retired" from riding but has a long life in store helping people from the ground.
 Zane

Zane is a reg. Missouri Fox Trotter.  He is selective in who he lets into his world but has shown an uncanny ability to know when to push and when to support our clients.
  Steel

Steel is a registered grulla QH.  He  does an amazing job as a four-legged therapist and loves working with at-risk populations the best!

Red

Red is a free lease to UBC and he is become a favorite in the rotation with clients both in therapeutic riding and EAP/EAL.  He is a registered Icelandic Pony and is as cute as they come!
  Peppy

Peppy arrived at the farm in October and in the process of learning his new job as a 4 legged therapist.  He is a quarter horse and is showing the signs of having what it takes to join the elite team of horses at UBC.

 Orphan Annie

Orphan Annie was abandoned by her mother at birth and rescued by a loving family.  However the family was no longer able to care for her so she was donated to Unbridled Change to help children.

Orphan Annie's Fund

Orphan Annie came to us as a rescue - she was only one and a half years old.  She had been rejected by her mother at birth, and taking in by a family who meant well but did not have the means or the knowledge to take care of all her needs.  She had an umbilical hernia that had grown to a life threatening size, was extremely under weight and malnourished and was suffering from what we now know was irreversible damage in her neurological system due to her environment.  However she had a truly gentle eye and loved everyone how walked into the barn while we were trying to nurse her back to full health.  Unfortunately as she gained weight and started to show signs of improvement she also was showing signs of permanent damage to her neurological system.  On a raining afternoon in June Annie lost her fight - but she will always remain in our heart - Little Orphan Annie was able to help 13 children during her time at Unbridled Change learn how to connect and give empathy - she will always live on in their hearts!

To honor her and the other rescue horses that Unbridled Change provides home to we have named our horse fund - Annie's Fund.  Please help us maintain the biggest part of our herd the horses buy donating to Annie's Fund today!
