Be Who You Are Now

Ram Dass, a spiritual guru and teacher of awaken said, “Be here now.”

His words echo what all great spiritual teachers share the importance of being in the present in your life right now, because now is all that there is.

However, a key missing piece to this advice that includes HOW to be with the now.

To this point, I invite clients into exploring:

“Do you give yourself permission to be who you are now?”

You might be incredibly surprised to know that so often we are on auto-pilot and essentially go nose-blind to our own inner guidance that is whispering for us to show of differently or to be in alignment with what our heart is sharing with us and not the sirens call of our habitual responses, ways of being, and very savvy protective programs.

Most of the time we don’t intentionally ignore a little prompting for our heart or our Wise One Self. Instead, their voices and guidance are drowned out by a sea of energetic programs, signatures, and fields that influence who and how you show up in each and every moment.

In episode 33 of Soulful Practices Podcast I share more about the different types of energetic fields or like what I like to call, echoes of our past, that are constantly being projected onto the current time and out into a potential future skewing the very way we see, think, feel, and perceive the present moment.

You can check out the full episode on either YouTube or Spotify.

The highlights are that there are fields that are coming from:

  • Within our own personal system of habits, protective programs, and trauma adaptations.
  • From other people's fields based on their needs, expectations, and how they need us to be so that it helps and supports them either for the highest good and benefit OR for their own protective needs and programs.
  • Collective “M” or morphogenetic fields that belong to our communities, organizations, countries and so on.

The process of healing, awakening, or living consciously is the journey of discovering that we personally and collectively have the power and ability to shift these hidden controls and influences on us. When we understand our greatest super power is the power of our conscious choice, we can determine the level of authority and impact these fields have over ourselves and how we engage the present moment rather than our Heart and Soul’s intentions.

To get to the point that we are willing to shed all hidden control of these fields and give ourselves permission to “Be who we are now” in alignment with our Heart’s whispers we have to be able to first hear our the subtle voices of our Heart and Soul through the louder protective voices and hold true to ourselves in the energies of internal and external discomfort, disappointment, disillusionment, and even challenges that might come from within ourselves or others.

I recently shared with one of our small group cohorts one of my all-time favorite exercises that helps us begin to compassionately explore how we do and do not grant ourselves permission to be who we are now.

The exercise appears very really simple, yet it is a profound self-reflection and initiation power within that can spark a desire to liberate yourself from other subtle and not so subtle ways your whole protective system is running.

Updating One Small Space to Reflect and Engage Current You

Step One

Find one small space that you would like to explore, it can be a bookshelf, an altar area or meditation area, or a display table or desktop top and ask:

“ Does this arrangement of items, colors, and so on in this space match who I am currently?”

  • Perhaps you start to realize that the bulk of the items in the space are more like a museum or shrine linked to a moment in time that once was amazing but now no longer supports you in the same way.
  • Perhaps you realize that everything in that little space is designed to please someone else and you are not even represented in that space.
  • Or you might recognize that the real you is reflected on the shelf, yet it isn’t reflected in your everyday life.
Step Two

Change it up!  See what new ways you can shift, change, or swap out items in the space to reflect your current self, likes, hopes, and dreams. And be aware of a big protective trap that tends to pop up right at this step, the little voice that says, “To update the space, I need an influx of money, resources, or I have to have this…” These voices are trying to derail you and lock you into a when I have this, then I do this, double bind.  So be creative and shop in your own house, you might be surprised at what you find!

If you do find yourself loving the idea of this exercise yet stalling out, just know that is completely normal. This exercise is a declaration to the universe and everyone in it energetically that you are giving yourself permission to change AND that can make parts of us really nervous.

Extra Support and Resources for Liberating Change

In April, our Connecting with JOY! membership area kicked off season 6. Each season I select a new theme to serve as our sacred container for the year. Season 6 is a Journey through Initiations of the Elements: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water, freeing ourselves from the stories of our past so that we can connect with the JOY of our lives.

During Season 6, I will be walking members through a series of explorations, journeys, and invitations very similar to this one, with key ways to work through the ways that we restrict and hold ourselves from being who we truly are now. If you are looking for a Guide to walk with you to learn how to rewrite the stories held within you so that you can unbridle and unlock your ability to connect with your life through joy, I would love to invite you to join us in our membership area. Click here to check out the different membership levels and take advantage of being in a beautiful community of fellow Seekers, Healers, and Mystics as we all journey to Be who we are now, not who we were.
