The Pursuit of Happines
The pursuit of happiness and the ability to connect and enjoy our lives are often the main motivations for seeking support from professionals in healing, wellness, personal growth, and spirituality.
Our heart yearns for us to help liberate ourselves from trapped trauma, illness, and being shackled to a life that feels void of life force energies like laughter, wonder, freedom, connection, love, and joy.
And yet, happiness often seems elusive. If we do seem to magically connect with a sense of happiness, joy, and being content in a good way then it often seems hard to remain a hold of those feelings.
When you hit moments of struggle to feel happiness it is easy to begin and think you are somehow broken or too far adrift in a sea of past pains, traumas, and disappointments. However, it isn’t that you are not able to create happiness in your present in your life, rather it is more likely you have protective mechanisms that are cutting you off from connecting with the happiness that is available to you even when things seem far from perfect.
One of my favorite quotes on this topic is by the late Thich Nhat Hanh, an amazing spiritual teacher that has helped so many souls reconnect to the happiness that is present in their lives just as they are, he said:
“Letting go gives us freedom,
and freedom is the only condition for happiness.
If, in our heart, we still cling to anything - anger, anxiety,
or possessions - we cannot be free.”
If freedom is the only condition for happiness and freedom comes to us by our ability to let go and not cling to anything, this begs the question, “How do I actually let go and stop clinging? Because I feel like I have said those words a hundred times, ‘I’m letting this go’ and nothing ever seems to really change.”
Agreeing with our conscious mind to let go is an important first step, but it is only the first step. I recently released two resources that can help you explore the second step that we so often don’t even know if a part of the process of letting go. Check them out below!
