Inner Fire Horse Energy: A Guide to Help Us Unbridle from Past Conditioning

You might have heard that we just entered the year of the Fire Horse with the transition of the new lunar year. This archetypal totem comes from the traditional Chinese Zodiac and the different animal archetypal patterns that make the changing cycles.

But what energies and invitations does this year’s totem invite us to explore?

Insights into Fire Horse Energy and Medicine

Like all archetypal patterns, there are light and shadow aspects to Horse energy.

In the Light: Horse energy calls forward personal freedom, courage, strength, vitality, and unbridled zest for living life in alignment with its own guidance and spirit.
In the Shadow: Horse energy can be reactive, overly confident, stubborn, and rush forward, driven by passion rather than insights.

The Human Relationship with Horse Energy

For us humans, we have collectively been drawn to the symbolic freedom and “spirit” of Horse. Images of horses running free ignite a yearning within our hearts to experience that same freedom. However, when it comes to how people interact with this energy within themselves or with an actual horse, we really don’t want to be in a real partnership with it. Instead, we want to control and bend the sheer power that Horse ignites within us through our personal and shadow wills.

The unfortunate truth is that humans tend to remove any sentience or equality of another Being and replace it with our own personal wants, wishes, and will.

And this, my friends, is the inner struggle that this year’s energy is setting up for us personally and collectively.

While we crave the answer of “YES! Of course I want to embrace my inner spark, initiate movements that honor my heart’s guidance, and blaze a new trail into a life that truly matches who I am… something almost always holds us back.

Why?

Most of the time it is because fear steps in and creates a divide that separates us from our own willingness to act in alignment with our inner guidance.

It is not because we don’t hear it or even believe it. Rather because we can’t predict it or control what will happen if we follow it.

The “Fire Horse” within each of us cannot be bridled or broken to the point that it no longer follows its own inner guidance. Unfortunately, that means that when we go to partner with this energy within ourselves or another, we approach it the same way most people approach training a real horse, stripping it of its own personal will so that you gain shadow control over it.

Questions for Reflection

A few big underlying questions this year may invite you to explore are:

How willing are you to partner with and trust your inner Fire Horse, the inner inspiration and guidance within?
How willing are you to follow your Inner Fire Horse’s lead, letting it guide you into awareness of the areas of old conditioning that are ready to be released and the new ways that are ready to emerge?
Where are the areas of your life that Parts of you are not ready to let be unbridled? And what might be in that resistance?
