What is a Tapping Tree?
Jan 20, 2025
Have you heard of a tapping tree?
I love teaching clients how to use a simple yet powerful tool called a tapping tree because it can help illuminate what is happening in their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies and also how what might seem like conflicting sensations or random symptoms are really are interwoven together stemming from past experiences and events that change the way they perceive themselves and the world around them.
The hidden impact of trapped trauma is affecting more than just our mental health or our mood. The events of our past, the trapped unmet needs, and the ways in which our system had to adapt or shift to help us make sense of it or survive the demands of the environment show up in our health, in our perspective of self and the world around us, and even in our ability to see different options and choices that we believe are available to us.
So often we treat ourselves as separate compartments, seeing our physical health as one thing, our emotions as something that is happening to us or through us, our events of the past as just that past and not influencing our present, and that our perspectives and ways in which we view ourselves and our lives are all separate things. But they aren’t. They are deeply interconnected and influencing each other often in extremely restrictive and harmful ways.
When we begin to work with ourselves as a whole we are willing to see how everything is linked together. One of the first steps of healing is to witness how our past and the adaptations we had to make in order to survive are affecting us now. It can become truly overwhelming to discern what is happening in and around our body and how to best help ourselves move in, through, and out the other side of them with greater well-being and freedom. That is where tapping, or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), and the framework of a tapping tree comes in.
Learning how to see ourselves through the framework of a tapping tree is a huge game changer in being able to help our nervous system step out of overwhelm so that we can track and understand the interwoven connections between our past experiences, limiting beliefs, and how that impacts our emotions and even how our system is showing up in current time health wise.
Nick Ortner, the author of The Tapping Solution, said, “To harness the full healing power of tapping, you have to tap through your entire tree, starting with the symptoms, and progressing all the way down through your limiting beliefs.”
Here is an example of a filled out tapping tree by Lindsay Kenny the founder of PRO-EFT, which is the style of EFT I teach to clients.
Tapping helps us work with all levels of trapped trauma at the same time - allowing us to acknowledge the different conflicting messages held within our body and to give them a voice that honors their truth and loving invites them to begin and soften their hold on us so that we can open to the possibilities of a different way of hearing, seeing, and perceiving ourselves, our choices, and what is really happening in the present moment.
I recently gave a masterclass on tapping in my new series Let’s Talk where I share:
- What is tapping and how does it work?
- A few key additional points that I teach clients to use with tapping, based off of Lindsey’s Pro-EFT style, so that they are “talking” with and accessing all major meridians instead of only a few of the meridians that traditional tapping points access.
- How to build out your own tapping “tree” to help you gain the full healing power of tapping.
I LOVED the information that came through in this call so much I wanted to make sure you have access to it!
