Working with Oracle Cards for Self-Healing and Growth

Aug 04, 2025

One of the main questions I get about Oracle Cards is how they are different from Tarot or other fortune-telling cards.

The inherent difference is that oracle cards are designed to bring you into self-reflection and new choice points. The images and theme of the card that you are drawn to can serve as an entry point of connection, sparking deeper inner conversations, knowing, and making connections that you might not typically see or be open to.

Oracle cards are not about trying to help you predict what events may be coming forward for you, but instead are seeking to help you explore the different thought and energetic patterns that are present for you at this time and influencing you and your choices for better or worse. From this exploration, you can make a conscious choice, freeing yourself up to be aligned with the wisdom and truths that the card is inviting you to engage in.

Oracle cards can also help you hone and build greater trust in your inner guidance.

I personally have used oracle cards for years as one of my main daily meditation and self-work tools.  Ultimately, they help me hop through my bias and unconscious perceptions held in my Mental Being so I can open to real conversations that will both illuminate my shadow patterns and adaptations and the Soul-level truths that will empower me in a grounded way.

This is the direction I took in my first oracle card project, The Sacred Witness Oracle. A suite of 3 sacred tools designed to help point you in a Soul-Led direction that can serve as an entry point of connection as to what aspects, Parts, and ways of being are needing to be witnessed so that you can fully live, love, and lead your authentic life. The Sacred Witness Oracle deck helps open you to the Medicines of the Soul, such as: Understanding, Acceptance, and Connection.

Ultimately, oracle cards are about bringing you out of separation and into greater integration and wholeness by illuminating the different choices that you are being asked to walk with at this time.

So how do they work, and why do they work?

Everything is energy and everything has sentience and consciousness attached to it. Our egos want to believe that human beings are the only source of intelligence and creation. This is not true. All life has sentience and innate intelligence. That means that animals, plants, insects, fish, and so on are all conscious, communicating, and following their own inner drives, desires, and ways of being just like humans. Additionally, they are tuned into a greater level of consciousness, often calling the collective and cosmic consciousness or mind. We are a collective Being, one Being with many different cells all interwoven together to create life – both on this planet and in the other cosmos. There is an innate desire to be in harmony, connection and supporting wholeness built into every cell, tissue, and heart of every Being.

The mystical law, what is in one is in the whole, or as above so below, are all pointing us to the truth that we are an interconnect by threads of energy, grace, matter that wants to bring LOVE or wholeness and balance into the system, and heal – bring connection back to any aspect of all that is which has been separated from or cut off from for any reason.

When a prayer from my Heart is sparked into life, energetically that creates a new ripple and “draw” on the web of life, vibrating and calling forward that which will answer that question and support that is needed the best it can. That is flow, that is the Tao, and the natural order. However, we can consciously and subconsciously make the choice to override that support and force our will into the system. Creating choices and actions from our ego or our individual mind that has separated itself for survival reasons from the grace and wisdom of the Heart and Soul.

When we work with divination tools, we are seeking to help transform that divide and build a bridge to the wisdom that is already within us. However, due to life’s experiences, we either doubt that inner wisdom or are completely cut off from it.

Each time you draw a card in search of truth, wholeness, and empowerment. Every molecule of the card's consciousness that holds the closet enter point of connection begins to vibrate and draw you to it. At the same time, the cells and energy of your body are doing the same thing, drawing you toward the card that will best support you in starting a sacred journey of exploration for self-knowledge and reconnection with truths and choices that some aspects of you have been separated from.

Instead of trying to predict what will happen in the future, the oracle card points you toward areas of yourself that are wanting to be tended to, acknowledged, remembered, and ultimately liberated so that you can bring yourself into greater harmony, freedom, and the ability to move from love not fear.

While it is nice to receive a card that we like and that feels enriching or validating. The True power of an Oracle lies in its ability to ask deep Soul-led questions that bring illumination on what choices are available to you that parts of you are not able to see, like, or even want to acknowledge are real. They are the truths that feel amazing and heartbreaking at the same time.

Let’s practice this type of divination and self-work now!

Below are three different mini readings based on cards from my upcoming new release The Sacred Witness Oracle Suite.

Take a moment and open to your heart, what do you find meeting you there, a thought, a sensation, a question?  Take a few rounds of breath with your system as it is and welcome it.

Next, invite your Heart to share with you a question or concern and write it down.

Are you willing to open up to support on how to best meet this question or need, letting go of what stories or thoughts you have on how to best meet this question?

If so, take a moment and feel into the three cards below – first choice, best choice, which one is drawing you to it and you to it?

Select the matching link to the card you feel drawn to and watch a short video on the core invitation that your card represents to help you address your question. From engaging in the reflection prompts, you can see what your Soul is yearning for you to connect with, and talk to the Parts of you that are either seeking or ready to give support.

Rinse and repeat 😊

Working with oracle cards is a great and fun way to bring and cultivate your intuition and your connection with your true self. Either come back to this blog or work with the deck directly through the Sacred Witness Oracle Suite (available soon for pre-order via our Kickstarter campaign) or a deck of your choice.

Have fun, the more you open doors to true connection with your Body, Mind, Heart, and Soul Beings as sacred companions and messages, the greater support and connection you will feel until one day you realize that you are your own guru, healer, and visionary. “The power my dear has been within you all along.” Wizard of Oz.

PS: You might be drawn to all three cards in a specific order. This would give you a “3-card spread” reading.

  • The first card you are drawn to represent the main theme to explore and anchor your reading.
  • The second card represents the weight or habits from the past that are influencing you.
  • The third card invites you in a nuanced place to explore for current time, which if you do will help you work with the first card's theme with greater freedom and choice.

Also I give a more in-depth reading of each card in our VIP community dedicated to supporters of the Sacred Witness Oracle. You can join our VIP list here to access those readings to help support you as well.
